Keepers at Home-Raising Confident Kids

A confident person is self-assured and has a sense of trust in their own decisions and actions . They are not afraid to take risks or make mistakes, and they are comfortable with themselves and their place in the world

Confident synonyms: assured, sure of oneself, positive, assertive, believing in oneself, collected, at ease.

Tips for raising confident kids:-

  • Be an example and a good role model to your kids: It’s important to be the example you hope your kids will emulate.
  • Ensure you set rules: This provides guidelines and structure for them to follow and what to expect.
  • Accept that mistakes will be made and don't get upset about it: Help kids see that everyone makes mistakes and the important thing is to learn from them, not dwell on them. Confident people don’t let fear of failure get in their way, not because they’re sure they won’t ever fail, but because they know how to take setbacks in stride.
  • Help them overcome the fear of failure: The fear of failure often prevents children from trying their best and reaching their fullest potential, which can naturally diminish confidence.
  • Embrace imperfection with tasks: Remind kids that they will not always get it right the first time, but the key is to continue to push through and do it to the best of their ability.
  • Encourage them to try new things: Learning new abilities gives children a sense of competence and self-assurance that they can handle any challenge.
  • Praise perseverance: It's crucial to develop the life skill of perseverance by not giving up easily or giving up after a single failure. Success in everything is not a prerequisite for confidence and self-worth; rather, these qualities come from having the fortitude to keep attempting new things and the ability to handle failure.
  • Help kids find their passion or interest: Help kids in creating a sense of self, as this is crucial to confidence development. Naturally, witnessing their abilities develop will also greatly enhance their self-worth.
  • Set goals: Encourage your child to identify the things they would like to achieve in order to assist them in transforming their aspirations and ambitions into realistic objectives. Next, practice dividing more ambitious objectives into manageable deadlines. You will be confirming their passions and assisting them in acquiring the knowledge and abilities necessary to achieve their objectives in life.
  • Celebrate their efforts or successes no matter how small and recognize their achievements: While congratulating children on their achievements is admirable, it's equally critical to express your pride in their efforts to whatever the outcome. Learning new abilities requires effort, and results aren't always noticeable right away. Whether they are toddlers building with blocks or teens learning how to cook or drive a car on their own, let them know you appreciate what they are doing.
  • Give Positive reinforcement: This is the act of rewarding a positive behavior in order to encourage it to happen again in the future
  • Give them responsibilities: Being needed by your family is invaluable and helps foster self worth.
  • Encourage them to be independent with some form of empowerment within boundaries or limits: This is a great way to help them build confidence.
  • Allow them to share their opinions on various matters. This gives them an avenue to further build their confidence.
  • Teach and encourage them to be honest: Even if the truth is not the most popular thing to do, or even if they may get in trouble for telling the truth.
  • Give them challenges: Get your child involved in activities that make them feel confident, this will help them tackle more difficult tasks or activities.
  • Encourage them to express their feelings: This is an excellent way to build confidence. Create a safe space for them to express their feelings in a healthy way.
  • Teach them to accept constructive criticism and learn from mistakes, or ways to improve.
  • Teach them to stand up for themselves: Teach your child to learn how to assert themselves in a healthy and positive way. This aids with their self confidence.
  • Make time for them and engage in play and conversations with you. Set out time to do things they are interested in.
  • Show them that you love them: Let your child know that you love them and are on their side no matter what the outcome. Make sure they know how you feel about them and express it every day. Give lots of hugs , kisses, comfort or a listening ear and attentive eyes.
  • Do not compare them to others: Comparisons cause children to doubt themselves, believe that they can’t please you or meet your expectations, and ultimately lose confidence.
  • Be mindful of how you speak about yourself and people.
