Catfish are so-named because of their whisker-like barbels, which are located on the nose, each side of the mouth, and on the chin. Most catfish possess leading spines in their dorsal and pectoral fins. Catfish are scaleless, a characteristic of catfishes distinguishing them from most other teleost fish.

Seamoss or Seaweed is an organism that lives in the sea and does not have fins or scales and cannot be eaten by the children of Israel.

Shrimp belongs to the crustacean family, which includes lobsters, crabs, and crayfish.Within the Crustacea, shrimps belong to the order Decapoda, which means “ten feet” in Greek, referring to the ten legs they possess. Shrimps are further classified into two suborders: Dendrobranchiata and Pleocyemata. Dendrobranchiata shrimps are also known as “prawns” and have branched gills. They are typically larger than Pleocyemata shrimps, which have unbranched gills.

Since there are so many different kinds of crabs, they have thousands of common names, such as king crab, horseshoe crab, blue crab, snow crab, coconut crab, and more. Yet, they all belong to the scientific order Decapoda, which comes from the Greek words “deka” meaning ten, and “pous” (poda), meaning feet.

Lobsters are highly allergenic. They may also become contaminated with disease-causing microorganisms or heavy metals. More sensitive individuals, such as those who are pregnant, should limit their intake. Be sure to eat fresh and fully cooked lobsters to avoid any potential bacterial contamination.
